In The Swing Newsletter March-April 2014

Well, March came in like a lion, but a very dry lion indeed. In The Swing has been busy "woodshedding", learning new songs and keeping our chops up, with a bunch of private gigs. On Wednesday, April 9, however, we return to Le Bateau Ivre in Berkeley (from 7-9) for a taste of excellent French food and le jazz hot. We hope it will be magnifique and that you'll join us. If you know any French rain dances, be sure to let us know and we'll play them as well as we can. Meanwhile, you can hear cuts from our album "Joy Spring" on our website, and order the album too!! Toujours l'amour!!

Don't forget, In The Swing is available for private parties (weddings, bar mitzvahs, funerals--well maybe not funerals) and house concerts. Check out the contact info on the website and get in touch!! Also, you can add yourself to our mailing list.

Pray for rain!!!

IN THE SWING NEWSLETTER, FEBRUARY 2014

Old Phil has spoken and it looks like six more weeks of winter, but will it ever rain? Stacey has been doing rain dances (the tap versions) every day for weeks, and yet the drought persists. Maybe if we all wash our cars!!!!!

Mystifyingly, our connection with Vladimir Putin broke down somewhere along the line and our invitation to play the opening ceremony at the Sochi Winter Olympics went astray, wreaking havoc with our scheduling. However, in addition to various private gigs this month, we’ll be appearing at:

THE WESTSIDE CAFÉ
2570 Ninth Street, Berkeley

on

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21
From 7:00-9:00

This is a very “Berkeley” venue, with terrific food and lots of local art on the walls.  If you’ve never been, be sure to drop by and enjoy the ambience and a great dinner. There’s no cover and we’ll be playing our little hearts out.

Be sure to check out our new, improved website at www.intheswing.net (where you can read this all again on our blog connection).

As we say in the band: Better to have swung and missed than never to have swung at all!!

IN THE SWING NEWSLETTER, JANUARY 2014

Our motto for 2014: We tweet not, neither do we twerk.

Well, thanks goodness that’s over. 2013, I mean. Don’t get me wrong, it was a great year for In The Swing. We had lots of gigs at our favorite places: Café Leila, Kensington Circus Pub, Westside Café, Le Bateau Ivre, and more. And a real highlight was our appearance in Irvine at the Folk Alliance Regional Western Conference (FAR-West), where we slept all day and played all night with many luminaries of the music world, including our good friends Houston & Jones.
But there was that little matter of the government shutdown. Not to mention the brouhaha over Obamacare, And then there was Miley Cyrus.

I could go on, but let’s talk about a cheerier subject. I recently visited Alan in his workshop: the floor was covered with tools, and sawdust was everywhere. Turns out he’s been constructing our new website at www.intheswing.net. Drop on by the site and check out the videos, as well as some tracks from our album Joy Spring (which you can also order, by the way!!).

We look forward to a swinging 2014 and hope you’ll join us from time to time. Your next opportunity will be at the Kensington Circus Pub at 389 Colusa in Kensington on Saturday, January 11, from around 8:15 till 10:30 or so.

Happy New Year from Stacey, Alan, Barry & Karl
